Foreign Language FAQ
Why is learning a language important?
Communicating in a language other than English can take you far on the path to becoming a global citizen. That is why the certificate requires that you complete (or show completion of) at least two sequential years of college-level courses through the intermediate level. At Appalachian, this would correspond to taking a course at the level of 1050 or above.
What languages are offered at Appalachian?
Through the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, Appalachian offers a variety of languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Other languages that are offered through the UNC Online System can be found here.
