In June 2020, the "Hirschvogel Foundation Fellows Award" was presented to Henning Tovar (Applied Data Analytics) , Josiah P. Killam (Physics and Astronomy) and Hengming Li (Engineering Physics ) at Appalachian State University in cooperation with the Cratis D. Williams School of Graduate Studies.
In 2017, the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation created a Graduate Fellowship program for STEM and Business students at Appalachian. The foundation funds three $2,000 fellowships annually . The Foundation grew out of the Hirschvogel Business and Language Internship Agreement with Appalachian State. Under the directorship of Dr. Kennedy in the department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures between 1998 and 2017, over 20 students with declared German minors, majoring in Business, participated in a six-week, all expenses paid internship at Hirschvogel headquarters in Bavaria, Germany.
