    Research and teaching interests: My current research explores issues of emotion and intimacy in Chinese popular culture, especially in operatic and cinematic narratives, in relation to the social history of twentieth-century China. I regularly teach Chinese language courses at beginning and intermediate levels, and occasionally Chinese cinema and literature courses. I also lead summer study abroad trips to China, which helps improve students’ linguistic competency and cultural awareness.
